The FDA and EPA Have Blood on Their Hands

Glyphosate, a carcinogenic ingredient found in weedkillers, has been linked to cancer in a new CDC study.

A Weedkiller Ingredient has Been Tied to Cancer Found in 80% of US Urine Samples

More than 80% of urine samples taken from adults and children in a US health study contained a weed-killing chemical called glyphosate, which is linked to cancer.

It is considered the most widely used herbicide in history.

Monsanto and Bayer own the company that produces the toxic herbicide. Bayer

CANCER-CAUSINGGLYPHOSATE

The CDC discovered that out of 2,310 urine samples taken from a group of Americans intended to be representative of the US population, 1,885 were laced with traces of glyphosate.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in herbicides sold around the world, including the very popular Roundup brand. Almost 1/3 of the participants were children ranging from 6 to 18 years old.

SHOULD THE FDA AND EPA BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE?

Let’s consider the facts, shall we?

Two-thirds of children’s and teens’ diets consist of ultra-processed foods.

Furthermore, approximately 75% of Americans are overweight and by 2030, 60% of our nation will be obese.

The reason this is so incredibly alarming is due to the FDA & EPA both approved “Glyphosate.”

Any outrage you have right now should be directed toward our government-funded and protected agencies: The FDA and EPA.

The reason this is so concerning is for a variety of reasons.

  1. What does this tell us about the FDA & EPA’s credibility?
  2. Can we trust the FDA to approve things for our consumption? (Such as vaccines, medications, and literally everything else we consume or use on our bodies)
  3. What kind of systems are in place currently? How did the FDA let this happen? Didn’t the EPA know that these products are harmful?
  4. So many studies have proven that these chemicals and toxins being added to our foods, farms, and personal care products are harmful, so why does the FDA/EPA allow these substances to be approved?
  5. The FDA and EPA are surely turning a blind eye due to the immense lobbying that happens in D.C. every year. Big Food, Big Pharma, and other massive corporations spend MILLIONS of dollars to ensure that their companies can use these cheap ingredients in the foods we consume.

The FDA & EPA Should be Dismantled

Academics and private researchers have been noting high levels of the herbicide glyphosate in analyses of human urine samples for years. But the CDC has only recently started examining the extent of human exposure to glyphosate in the US, and its work comes at a time of mounting concerns and controversy over how pesticides in food and water impact human and environmental health.

The FDA & EPA Should be Taken to Court

Sheppard co-authored a 2019 analysis that found glyphosate exposure increases the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and also co-authored a 2019 scientific paper that reviewed 19 studies documenting glyphosate in human urine.

Both the amount and prevalence of glyphosate found in human urine have been rising steadily since the 1990s when Monsanto Co introduced genetically engineered crops designed to be sprayed directly with Roundup, according to research published in 2017 by the University of California San Diego School of Medicine researchers.

Paul Mills, the lead researcher of that study, said there was “an urgent need” for a thorough examination of the impact on human health from glyphosate in foods people commonly consume.

More than 200 million pounds of glyphosate are used annually by US farmers on their fields.

DON’T EAT CORN, SOY, OATS, OR WHEAT!

Simply put, if we want to avoid getting cancer, we need to avoid certain crops.

The cancerous weedkiller is sprayed directly over genetically engineered crops including corn, soybeans, wheat, and oats.

Many farmers also use the herbicide on fields before the growing season, including spinach growers and almond producers.

Residues of glyphosate have been documented in an array of popular foods made with crops sprayed with glyphosate, including baby food.

Monsanto and the company that bought it in 2018, Bayer, have maintained that glyphosate and Roundup products are safe and that residues in food and in human urine are not a health risk.

The research and studies prove otherwise. Do these corporations really just expect people to take their “word for it?”

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a unit of the World Health Organization, classified glyphosate as a human carcinogen in 2015.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has said glyphosate is not likely to be carcinogenic.

Again, on what basis? Why would we trust the EPA and the FDA? Lobbying is a very big problem in our country and everyone knows it.

They think they can fool the public…

Last month a federal appeals court issued an opinion ordering the agency to give “further consideration” to evidence of glyphosate risks.

“People of all ages should be concerned, but I’m particularly concerned for children,” said Phil Landrigan, who worked for years at the CDC and the EPA and now directs the Programme for Global Public Health and the Common Good at Boston College.

“Children are more heavily exposed to pesticides than adults because pound-for-pound they drink more water, eat more food and breathe more air,” Landrigan said. “Also, children have many years of future life when they can develop diseases with long incubation periods such as cancer. This is particularly a concern with the herbicide, glyphosate.”
