Since the Boston Celtics have turned Enes Kanter into a highly paid cheerleader, parking the outspoken center on the bench for being so opinionated about things like LeBron James, China, and human rights issues around the world, he’s decided to do something to honor the fact that he’s set to become an American on Monday officially.

He’s changing his name to Enes Kanter Freedom. He’s completed the citizenship process and wanted to do something special to celebrate being an official citizen of the greatest country in the world,

Kanter has been in the NBA for 11 seasons, and he’s kept multiple moving companies in business.  He’s played for Utah, Oklahoma City, New York, Portland, and now twice with Boston.

Kanter has tried to bring awareness to China’s treatment of Tibet, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. He’s called for a boycott of the Winter Olympic Games coming up in February.

Kanter has worn specially designed shoes to try and bring awareness of China’s treatment of the Uyghur Community.

Two weeks ago, Kanter criticized LeBron James.

Kanter is a native of Turkey.
