Move over civil liberties. Now dog liberties are front and center, and it’s an ever growing movement.

San Francisco hosts the first ever restaurant catered primarily to dogs. At Dogue, you can get human food, and it’s reviewed to be decent, but there’s an entire separate menu for dogs.

There certainly is a market for it. In the pandemic, pet product purchases rose by $46 billion, and are projected to reach $143 billion next year, creating unprecedented growth.

Dogue itself caters to the more refined dog. There are artful, beautiful looking pastries (probably something your dog won’t care at all about), and there’s meat too. But in the spirit of hipster San Francisco, it’s primarily raw meat, again, made to look stunningly beautiful. Certainly instagram worthy, however.

There even is a tasting menu, costing a whopping 75 dollars, just for your dog. Your dog is probably perfectly happy with some grocery store ribs for $10, or if you’re at a restaurant, an extra $7 burger on the floor while you’re dining outdoors, but it may signal a movement for pet owners.

In a world where government reigns overall, pet owners have found it more and more difficult to be able to dine with their dogs. Some major cities even ban the allowance of dogs eating in the outside portion of the restaurant. And they can’t go into gas stations in certain states if there are also food products being made there.

Here’s hoping they make a dog friendly Wendy’s for the rest of us.
