Toys R Us making a comeback after being gone for four years proves children still love toys. Just in time for the holidays, the Toys R Us mascot, “Geoffrey,” is now being sold at locations that are now in Macy’s department stores.

The National Toy Hall of Fame is also creating nostalgic moments with their latest inductees. This week the National Toy Hall of Fame announced the top, Lite Bright, and, Masters of the Universe figurines as the winners. The three toys were picked from a group of 12, including Bingo, Phase 10, and Nerf toys.

The top has possibly been around for centuries. The National Museum of Play says toys similar to a spinning top were used by ancient people of Greece and Rome. Twirling the top with a short stem between two fingers can send the toy going at different speeds. You probably remember perfecting the flick of your wrist to win a few spinning top competitions as a kid.

The next inductee is the Lite Brite, which was created in 1966. Children could follow designs to create images of their favorite toys or pictures. All you needed was a light bulb. Today, a version of the toy still exists, including a 3D cube and an FX version.

This year’s last inductee into the National Toy Hall of Fame is Masters of Universe Figurines. These figurines came to life in 1979. Mattel created them to compete with Star Wars action figures. After their creation, the figurines’ first debut was in a mini comic book series. Then came the cartoon series, which aired from 1983 to 1985.
