Brazil has some serious turmoil, and it resembles what this country experienced almost exactly two years ago. Thousands of supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolonaro have stormed the National Congress building in Brasilia — and many are saying it’s eerily similar to what happened at the U.S. Capitol in January of 2021.

The reason is that many Brazilians feel the election was not fair and the new president’s win was stolen.  Here’s another eery similarity; Bolsonaro’s politics are similar to Donald Trump — a conservative, while the new President Luiz Inacio, like Joe Biden, is fond of progressive bordering on socialist tendencies.

Protesters on Sunday stormed the Congress building, the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace.  Their aim is for the military to swarm in and overthrow Inacio. Seems quite unlikely.

It’s an ugly scene as the protesters broke through barriers and entered buildings, roaming around with little resistance, while other demonstrators gathered outside. Roads are being blocked, and vehicles have been set on fire.

Reports from observers on the ground say roughly 3,000 people wearing yellow and green T-shirts and carrying Brazilian flags are involved.

Here’s a quote from Justice Minister Flavio Dino.

“This absurd attempt to impose their will by force will not prevail.”

Bolsonaro is out of the country and has not commented as of Sunday afternoon about the riot, and the new president is also not in Brazil.

The US Embassy in Brazil has issued a warning to US citizens, telling them to avoid areas surrounding government buildings.

Brazil’s attorney general has already announced his office would investigate the breech and undoubtedly bring the hammer down on those involved.
