Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs was a great basketball coach — when he had hall-of-fame players like David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili. Oh, Kawhi Leonard too.   Without them, he is an angry, bitter, elitist, rude, snobbish, and quite old mediocre basketball coach. He loves his red wine, and he loves to lecture others — and Texas Senator Ted Cruz had enough of it.

It started when Popovich commented on legislative proposals from Cruz that would provide more armed security at schools.

Popovich took that opportunity to deliver a rant on gun control.

“They’re going to cloak all this stuff [in] the myth of the Second Amendment, the freedom. You know, it’s just a myth. It’s a joke. It’s just a game they play. I mean, that’s freedom.”

Ok. Usually, he just barks at officials and sports reporters.

Cruz responded on his podcast called “Verdict.” He essentially dunked on Popovich — telling him to stay in his privileged lane.  We’ve seen for a long time that there are a lot of institutions in sports that don’t really like their fans very much.

“You see this at the NBA, you see at the NFL, these incredibly rich athletes who hypocritically disdain their fans and customers, and who lecture them almost inevitably from the point of ignorance. For some reason, the protection that is suitable to ultra-wealthy, Left-Wing athletes is not suitable for our children. They deserve less protection.”

Cruz wants safety at schools, and he supports the Second Amendment. That’s not a horrible stance to take.
