There was a time when life was much simpler for Alec Baldwin. A decade and a half ago, the most significant trouble he was in happened when he left a voice message for his teenage daughter, calling her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”  He was the star of “30 Rock” and beloved by progressives for his low-rent impersonation of Donald Trump on SNL.  Things have gotten really serious real fast in Baldwin’s world now, however.

The 64-year-old got hit with a couple of counts of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of “Rust” cinematographer Alayna Hutchins in 2021. It was Baldwin who accidentally fired the shot that killed her.

The involuntary manslaughter charge is a fourth-degree felony and carries an 18-month sentence.

He also got manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act charge — 18 months behind bars attached to it. Prosecutors also hit him with a firearm enhancement to the charge — all told he could get five years in prison if convicted.

Is he worried? Baldwin is a pretty confident dude, and if you listen to his lawyer, Luke Nikas,  Alec should kick back, relax, and hang out with his seven children, all under the age of nine, and don’t worry about jail time.

“This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice.”

Nikas also told the NY Post that Baldwin would “fight these charges, and … win.”

Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds.”

Baldwin has already settled a civil suit with Hutchins’ family.  Watch for Baldwin’s legal team to shift the blame on the other person charged in the case.  That would be the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.
