TV news gets censored even further.

As a former local TV news anchor, I witnessed this first hand. You parrot scripts the network writes, there is no allowance for deviation. There is no allowance for balance and fairness. I remember getting chastised for saying, there could be more documents Biden is sitting on, versus, the documents that were found are all that’s left (CBS, our parent company’s script).

Now, CBS says their anchors can’t say “transgendered” on air. This rule was instituted in light of the transgender Nashville school shooter. CBS says she can’t be referred to as “transgendered” anymore.

A memo from CBS found by the NY Post said, ““The shooter’s gender identity has not been confirmed by CBS News. As such, we should avoid any mention of it as it has no known relevance to the crime. Should that change, we can and will revisit.”

Within the day of the shooting, a CBS newsanchor actually did refer to the shooter as transgender. She didn’t receive any complaints. And the Nashville police chief also noted the shooter’s gender identity. The claim that it’s not relevant, according to CBS, is a faulty one, as usually the police chief would be expected to primarily only discuss details important and relevant to the case.

A CBS spokesperson, to the NY Post, tried to backtrack a bit saying, “We are waiting to see the manifesto and any details about motive. As we say in our guidance, we will then review and revise our reporting.”

But expect that statement to be there to put detractors at bay. The whole vernacular, and therefor efforts to uncover the truth, is shifting dramatically in TV news.
