Conservative provocateur and podcast host Candace Owens parted ways with The Daily Wire on Friday morning, ending a recently tumultuous tenure at the outlet.

“Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship,” company CEO Jeremy Boreing wrote in an X post. He did not elaborate further on the situation.

Owens, who joined Daily Wire’s talent lineup in 2021, confirmed her departure from the outlet in a separate post, stating “The rumors are true— I am finally free.”

Her post directed her audience to her personal website and promised “many announcements in the weeks to come.”

In recent months, tensions have flared between Owens and fellow Daily Wire commentator Ben Shapiro, particularly on the subject of the Israel-Hamas war. Owens has taken a firm stance against American involvement in foreign wars, including the one in Gaza; Shapiro, an Orthodox Jew, has criticized other Republicans for their declining support for both Israel and Ukraine, stressing America’s national security interests in both conflicts.

In November, Owens posted a Bible verse saying “You cannot serve both God and money,” which sparked a social media dispute between the two pundits. Shapiro responded by telling her that “if you feel that taking money from The Daily Wire somehow comes between you and God, by all means quit.”

Discourse on the subject deteriorated from there, with Owens accusing Shapiro of “acting unprofessional and emotionally unhinged for weeks now” in reference to a video of him calling her an antisemite during a speech.

The two had previously butted heads over other issues including the COVID-19 vaccine, the Russia-Ukraine war, and Owens’ longtime friendship with rapper Kanye West.

However, it appears that Owens’ recent interactions with other members of the Jewish community may have been the final straw. In separate podcast episodes, Owens criticized Shmuley Boteach, “Michael Jackson’s rabbi” who co-owns a Kosher sex toy business, and debated Rabbi Michael Barclay, who called her an antisemite.

Boreing, who co-founded The Daily Wire with Shapiro, clarified that he could not fire Owens during a leave of absence from his role as CEO, nor would he have the desire to do so at the time.

He further reinforced this during an appearance on the PBD Podcast a short time later. However, speculation lingered that the strained relationship between Candace Owens and The Daily Wire was quickly coming to an end.
