Every once in a while, Bill Gates takes a big swing with statements guaranteed to get attention.
This spring, he said the world needs to get away from eating beef, even though one of his good buddies is Warren Buffett, who lives in Nebraska, a state with six times more cows than people and a huge beef industry.
Most people have come to terms that Gates is sort of like a crazy uncle at this point. Off the chart brilliant, but very odd and socially awkward.
Here’s his latest doozy – as he reflected on what he called his “most unusual and difficult year” in a blog post, Gates started to reference the future and what he believes will be a “more digitized future.”
How digitized? Brace yourself.
“Within the next two or three years, I predict most virtual meetings will move from 2D camera image grids…to the metaverse, a 3D space with digital avatars.”
Here’s a translation; the 2D image grids he references are what you get from Zoom, or Microsoft Teams, the platforms most virtual business meetings are conducted on. In the near future, there will be a 3D avatar who would attend meetings in a virtual office or really anywhere. Inside the metaverse, your avatar could interact with your co-worker’s avatars.
I wonder if there will be a 3D human resource director in the metaverse tome sure the avatars behave?
