Fox News has a problem that they may see as an opportunity. Tucker Carlson, the most popular host in cable news, was fired on April 24th, which meant his highly-rated 8 PM ET time slot was open. Instead of naming a permanent host, Fox will have people fight for the chair.

Kayleigh McEnany, the former Press Secretary for President Trump, is the first replacement host getting her shot to entertain Americans.

“I am honored to share that I will be hosting Fox News Tonight on Fox News at 8 pm ET all next week (5/8-5/12)! Set your DVR. Please join me next week as we dig into the state of politics, media, culture, and faith in America.”

McEnany came on board the Fox News train two months after she departed the White House following the 2020 election. What’s interesting is that she has now become a supporter of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, which has not made DT particularly thrilled. In late April, he posted on his Truth Social platform, “I guess Kayleigh is no longer speaking so favorably about DeSanctimonious now that his Polls are shot!”

The time slot Carlson used to dominate is now called Fox News Tonight. Brian Kilmeade initially hosted it, and now McEnany gets her crack to try and hold down the fort. The ratings have been horrible since Carlson left.  He was pulling in 3.25 million views nightly, but now the fill-ins are drawing just 1.62 million viewers on average nightly.

The drama to watch in the coming weeks will be the battle between Tucker and Rupert Murdoch over how much of what was left on Carlson’s contract he’ll take with him. He’s hired heavyweight Hollywood attorney Bryan Freedman to claw back some of the roughly $20 million he was reportedly being paid annually.
