Sen. Josh Hawley, R-MO., said late Monday that Antifa attacked his home in Washington D.C. and threatened his family. In a Twitter post, Hawley wrote, “Tonight while I was in Missouri, Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who can’t travel. They screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door. Let me be clear: My family & I will not be intimidated by left-wing violence.”

This morning, the Washington Post described the event as an “hour-long vigil,” while a video shared on social media of the event showed people yelling through megaphones and approaching the front door of the house.

Hawley took exception to the Washington Post’s characterization of the event, tweeting, “@washingtonpost this morning printing outright lies from the Antifa group who now describe themselves as sweet angels. BS. You screamed through bullhorns, shouted down my wife when she asked you to leave, vandalized property, pounded on our door, and terrorized neighbors”

In a subsequent tweet, Hawley continued, “And didn’t have the guts to do it in daylight, but only under cover of darkness so you could hide. You’re scum. And we won’t be intimidated”

The far-left group ShutDownDC was reportedly the ones behind the gathering at Hawley’s home.

Hawley has recently drawn criticism for his decision and plans to contest the electoral votes by lawmakers during the joint session of Congress, which will take place on Wednesday.
