Drug cartels in Mexico go to any lengths to smuggle fentanyl into the United States.  Every once in a while, they get busted, which makes it frightening to think about how much of that lethal drug makes it across the southern border.

Police in Mexico recently found 660 pounds of the synthetic killer drug stuffed into coconuts and on the way to the US.

There’s video online showing authorities wearing gloves opening up the coconuts, and finding plastic bags filled with the lethal drug. The discovery happened last week, as the coconuts were in a truck traveling in Sonora on a road that heads directly into Arizona.

Two people were arrested.

The fentanyl crisis in this country is very serious. The drug is 100 times more potent than morphine and was created to treat patients with chronic severe pain or severe pain following surgery. It does have legitimate uses, but it’s killing Americans at an alarming rate.

Drug dealers mix fentanyl with other drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and meth, which increases the likelihood of a fatal overdose.

Just two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal, depending on a person’s size.

The big drug organizations transfer fentanyl in bulk, with one kilogram of fentanyl having the potential to kill half a million people.

Because of fentanyl, drug overdoses in this country have risen well over 40 percent in the past three years.

There’s no way for the average person to know if a drug has been laced with fentanyl.
