Kickboxer-turned-influencer Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania on Monday night in connection with a warrant issued by British authorities, a legal representative confirmed Tuesday. Tate and his brother Tristan now face charges including “sexual aggression” and exploitation dating back to 2012-2015, which could result in their extradition to the UK to stand trial.

Mateea Petrescu, spokeswoman for the Tate brothers, said that the Bucharest Court of Appeal will make a “pivotal decision” regarding the warrants issued by the Westminster Magistrates Court in London. Should the court decide to execute the warrant, the two influencers, who hold dual citizenship in the US and UK, would be deported from Romania, where they have lived since 2017.

Between 2012 and 2015, four women accused Andrew Tate of sexual assault and physical abuse, filing charges with the Crown Prosecution Service. At the time, the UK government ultimately declined to bring charges against Tate, and the alleged victims launched a crowdfunding effort to cover the legal fees for a civil case.

It is unclear why the Crown Prosecution Service opted to reopen the case, and no details have been provided on why Tristan Tate was arrested.

Petrescu also said that the Tates maintain their innocence in this case, stating that “they categorically reject all charges and express profound disappointment that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence.”

“They are fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve,” she continued.

Andrew and Tristan Tate were previously arrested by Romanian authorities in December 2022 on charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. The Tates spent three months in jail after the initial arrest, followed by an extended house arrest. The brothers, along with two female associates, were all formally indicted in June 2023. No trial date has been set.

Following his arrest on Monday night, Tate declared that “The Matrix is afraid, but I only fear God” in an X post. (“The Matrix” refers to what Tate sees as a system-wide campaign against him by global elites.)
