Prince Charles had waited a long time to upgrade his business card, and the passing Thursday of his 96-year-old mother, Queen Elizabeth, means “King” Charles’ reign has begun in Britain.

He was greeted like a, well, king on Friday at Buckingham Palace. Huge crowds greeted and cheered for him as he was dropped off in a vintage Rolls-Royce.  He got out of his car and shook hands with countless fans, basking in the glow of his monarchy.

The King was overheard thanking his well-wishers.

“Thank you so much; it’s so kind, it really is.

“God bless you.

“I’m very touched.”

Charles was dressed in black, mourning his mother.

Reports emerged that Megan Markle was not invited to the Queen’s bedside as her health deteriorated.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, was publicly seen for the first time Friday since the Queen’s death. She was spotted driving to pick up her kids from school.

Her husband, Prince William, is now next in line as heir to the throne.  His grandmother served in that capacity for an incredible 70 years.
