If you live in LA, chances are you’ve been stuck in horrific traffic coming or going to Las Vegas. There’s one road in and out, basically, and it doesn’t take much to turn a four-hour car trip into a six-and-a-half-hour nightmare. But that might be changing — without having to go to the airport.

A company called Brightline West has high hopes of connecting Vegas to Los Angeles via high-speed train service. By high speed, I’m talking 186 mph for the 260-mile ride. That means it’s an hour and a half from door to door.  That would not suck.

Vegas is a popular spot — not exactly breaking news, but did you know 38 million people swing by each year? That is 105,00 people,,, per day! Many from So-Cal.

Government leaders in Cali and Nevada are liking this idea, and they have their hand out to Uncle Sam, asking for $4 billion to make it happen. Sign me up for a trip if and when this gets up. Brightline West will be serving free Wi-Fi, cocktails, and many other amenities that sound much better than a package of pretzels a Southwest flight attendant might hand out from her goody bag.

If anyone wants a sneak peek of what this service will be like, you can get an idea by traveling to Florida. Brightline is launching a similar service that will ultimately connect Orlando to Miami. The cost for a one-way ticket starts at $79—blazing speed at a reasonable price.

It sounds like a winner.
