Add Oklahoma to the list of states putting the brakes on gender affirming care for kids. The verdict just simply isn’t out yet.

It becomes the 16th state to do so, signaling a strong trend. Governor Kevin Stitt signed the bill banning gender affirming care for kids, which is a policy he campaigned on during his re-election bid last year. He said he wanted to protect children, and delivered on his vision only five months into his second term. Not bad.

“We cannot turn a blind eye to what’s happening across our nation, and as governor I am proud to stand up for what’s right and ban life-altering transition surgeries on children in the state of Oklahoma,” said Stitt.

Stitt previously signed a bill banning transgender women (formerly men) from playing on women’s sports teams.

Sensing a theme, the Oklahoma ACLU is springing into action and threatening legal consequences.

“Gender-affirming care is a critical part of helping transgender adolescents succeed, establish healthy relationships with their friends and family, live authentically as themselves, and dream about their futures.”

They make an argument that doesn’t seem to be popular with voters, but we’ll see how it goes and keep you posted.
