Over 50% of Americans feel like they’re in imminent danger at least once a day, according to a new poll.

The poll analyzed 2,000 Americans on how they feel about their personal safety.

52% of those Surveyed Feel “On Edge” Everyday.

75% of 25 through 34-year-olds feel concerned about their safety on a daily basis and 50% of Americans ages 45 to 54 agreed.

Dark streets and sidewalks caused their anxiety the most, followed by neighborhoods they aren’t familiar with. Next were parking garages and riding alone in a taxi.

39% of respondents completely avoid ride-shares because they don’t feel safe taking them. This climbs to 50% for those between 25 and 34.

To stay safe, 56% of those surveyed share their location with someone else, “just in case.”

Gen-Z and millennial respondents were the most likely to use this tactic, with 62% of those between 18 and 24 and 65% of those 25 to 34 sharing their location with someone.

Respondents also revealed the top things they do for safety and peace of mind while traveling.

The most popular items are pepper spray (40%) and a personal safety app on their phone (40%).

One in three respondents have an alert button or device, as well as a self-defense keychain.

The top safety measure Americans take when they meet someone new is meeting up in a public place (58%), followed by sharing their location with someone (43%).

The average respondent shares their location when meeting someone new 3 times a month.

Americans between 25 and 34 are the most cautious when it comes to this, doing this an average of 5 times a month.

42% said they don’t feel safe at home alone.

The survey also asked respondents about their safety in the comfort of their own homes and found that 42% do not feel safe at home if alone.

45% avoid living on the ground or first floors of apartment buildings out of fear of home invasions.

Security and Safety

46% of respondents have a home security system and younger respondents were the most likely to have a system.

60% of those between 25 and 34 years old have a home security system, followed by 57% of 35 to 44-year-olds and 55% of 18 to 24-year-olds.

Does the Mainstream Media Play a Role?

The immense propaganda and fear-based agendas, also known as “fear mongering,” has only seemed to worsen these last few years.

From the recent Covid-19 pandemic to the war in the Ukraine, the fear mongering doesn’t seem to end.

Many stories reported on the news incite fear into the minds of millions of people worldwide.

Talk to anybody these days, and they will likely express at least one fear they have as a result of the global chaos we are witnessing on a daily basis.
