At least 32 are dead in a series of tornados from Arkansas to Delaware.

11 states in total felt the fatal storms, with Arkansas getting the worst of it.

In Little Rock, over 2000 homes had been damaged. Families gave harrowing reports of seeing their roofs unexpectedly tear off from their homes, destroying everything in an instant. In the city alone, the tornado traveled over 25 miles at 165 MPH.

The governor of Tennessee, another state hit hard by the tornadoes, said this was the worst week he’s faced in his governorship so far.

In Illinois, a beloved theater near Chicago ended up in total collapse. Down south the governor sent a large team to dig through the collapsed basements of homes where people were stuck. Most were found alive in those search efforts.

What’s worse, is that no one saw this coming. The meteorologists warned of intense winds the night before, and some serious storms. But nothing reaching any tangible danger. An Arkansas local gave the local NBC news affiliate an interesting tidbit saying, “The only way we knew the tornado was coming – the leaves were swirling, that’s the only way we knew. It looked like it was standing still.”

Residents across the south and the Midwest were totally blindsided. For now, the storms have calmed down, though more might be on the horizon within the next couple of days.
