In 2022, the U.S. Military had its toughest recruiting year since the advent of the all-volunteer military in 1973, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Army fell short of its recruiting goal by 23 percent, the Navy fell short 26 percent, and the air force 11 percent. The Marines hit their goal, but said recruiting was very difficult.
In 2021, only nine percent of young people ages 16-21 said they would consider military service.

How did we get here?
Many argue that the drastic culture change within the military over the last decade has been a significant contributor to the recruiting difficulties. Some examples:
- In 2011, the U.S. repealed the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy (prohibiting gay recruits from serving openly in the military).
- 2013, the U.S. lifts ban on women serving in combat roles.
- According to the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), the number of women serving in combat occupations increased over 60 percent between 2013 to 2018.
- November 2017 … the first time the Defense Health Agency approved payments for sex re-assignment surgery for active-duty U.S. military service members.
- The Pentagon spent $15 million between 2017-2021 to treat 1,892 transgender troops, including $11.5 million for psychotherapy and $3.1 million for surgeries (according to Defense Department data provided to Military.com).
- 2018 — Harassment Prevention And Response in the Armed Forces: clarified the definition of hazing and made it a more serious offense.
- It also made it more difficult to discipline within the military.
- 2020 — The Army replaces Shark Attacks with a team event called Thunder Run
Shark Attack
- Drill sergeants screaming in trainees’ faces as they stepped off the buses ordering them to perform exercises using loaded duffel bags.
- Drill sergeants were charged with assessing the trainees ability to handle stress, singling out the perceived undesirables by enveloping them in a manner that emulated a shark attack.
Thunder Run
- Team building exercise that aims to build trust and recruits are penalized with physical exercises instead of getting screamed at.
There was also the botched evacuation from Afghanistan, the vax mandate, the recruiting commercial about Emma with two moms, and allowing higher bodyfat percent.
Why is the Military going along with these woke policies?
- According to the DoD, 71 percent of the U.S. military budget goes to private defense contractors.
