25,000 in Alberta had to be evacuated after wildfires have decimated much of Alberta’s natural landscape.
At least 100 wildfires are burning in total, with 300,000 of acres of land burning on fire.
The premiere of Alberta, Danielle Smith, running for re-election, did her best to assure a province on edge. “I want to assure everyone that our province has the right tools, the right technology and the resources in place to tackle this challenge.”
In a town just north of Edmonton, residents are officially required to evacuate.
Temperatures have been hotter than normal for May, creating the problem. Green grass hasn’t developed yet as its early in the season, and the brown grass is far more quicker to catch fire and spread, creating a recipe for disaster.
British Columbia has got a bit of it too. 5000 acres caught fire, and some towns issued a mandatory evacuation as well.
So far, no deaths have been reported, most likely due to Canada’s sparsely populated land. There isn’t enough densely populated areas in that specific area to cause a massive.
Watch to see how Smith handles this. She’s locked in a close battle with the New Democratic Party, a hard left party that had power previously. If they expand, the NDP may have a solid shot as the election is just a few weeks away.
