Cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and New Orleans have something in common—soft, progressive mayors who ignore the horrific crime problems in their cities. Chicago got smart and gave Lori Lightfoot the boot when she ran for a second term, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams told CNN other mayors like her better pay attention.

“I showed up at crime scenes. I knew what New Yorkers were saying. And I saw it all over the country. I think, if anything, it is really stating that this is what I have been talking about. America, we have to be safe,”

Adams ran on a platform of safety and being serious about trying to fix the crime problem in New York City, and we’ll see if he does that.

Lightfoot was in charge in Chicago when crime numbers went through the roof in 2020 and 2021. Murders have fallen a little since those two years, but carjacking, robberies, and theft are all way up.

Adams is saying things that require no deep thinking. Americans want to feel safe. Duh. Mayors who ignore the violence in their city are essentially part of the problem.

Here’s what’s pathetic — Adams is taking heat from Democrats for his tough-on-crime vibe.  Thankfully, at least on the surface, he doesn’t seem to care.

“The polls were clear. New Yorkers felt unsafe, and the numbers showed that they were unsafe. Now, if we want to ignore what the everyday public is stating, then that’s up to them. I’m on the subways. I walk the streets. I speak to everyday working-class people. And they were concerned about safety.”
