Say this about Joe Biden and his administration. They love themselves some woke culture, and they are on a mission to make sure Americans are exposed to it at every turn — including, potentially, in Artificial Intelligence.

Biden’s crew is working on regulations for AI that would require government audits to ensure they produce “trustworthy outputs.” That could include evaluations to determine if AI is promoting what they call “misinformation” and “disinformation.”  This is what Elon Musk was trying to warn people about.

Musk has talked about inherent dangers that would arise from training AI to be woke. This past week, Alan Davidson, the assistant secretary of communications and information at the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (can you get that title on a business card?) Said in a speech that a way to build trust in AI as it grows in popularity is through government audits.

“Much as financial audits create trust in the accuracy of financial statements, accountability mechanisms for AI can help assure that an AI system is trustworthy. The policy was necessary to make that happen in the finance sector, and it may be necessary for AI. Our initiative will help build an ecosystem of AI audits, assessments, and other mechanisms to help assure businesses and the public that AI systems can be trusted.”

Oh yeah. That sounds like a swell idea. And just how would they be able to do that? Republicans and Democrats cannot agree about anything — especially on defining what “misinformation” or “disinformation” would be.

Musk commented that this would be an easy way for progressives that run the government now to slide in their woke agenda legally.  “The danger of training AI to be woke — in other words, lie — is deadly,” is what he Tweeted last year.

Here’s one last quote from Davidson’s speech. “The Biden administration supports the advancement of trustworthy AI,” he said. “We are devoting a lot of energy to that goal across government.”

That’s comforting.
