Tucker Carlson said while speaking at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, “We’ve lost more Americans from drugs in the past 4 years than we lost in World War II.”

Tucker’s speech criticized US leaders for being more interested in solving international problems while ignoring domestic issues. According to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics, the nation’s overdose death rate increased by 255.74 percent from 2000 to 2019. In 2020 alone, 96,779 drug overdose deaths were reported. The most common drug used in overdoses is opioids, which were involved in almost 7 out of 10 overdoses.
