Tiger Woods, one of the most recognized and admired people on the planet, is in a Los Angeles hospital following a serious single-car accident Tuesday morning.

Woods had to be extracted by the jaws of life from first responders, and he was then taken by ambulance to the hospital as doctors treat what Tiger’s agent called “multiple leg injuries.”

He is in serious condition according to authorities, and was reportedly undergoing surgery.

It is being described as a “single vehicle roll-over” traffic collision, and it occurred just south of Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

An L.A. County Sheriff’s Department source told TMZ that they do not believe alcohol was involved and did not comment further if any other substance was possibly involved. TMZ also reported that Woods was conscious on the scene, and even asked first responders to have his manager pick up his stuff.

TMZ also quoted a television director who was arriving at the hotel that Woods was departing that Woods was speeding off the property and almost collided with the director.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash at roughly 7:12 a.m.  Tuesday.  One police source told ESPN that it was possible the 45-year old golf legend may have suffered two broken legs in the accident.

The Sheriff’s department said the accident occurred on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, and Woods was taken to the Harbor UCLA Medical Center.

A representative of L.A. County Fire Department told ESPN that Woods had to be extracted from the windshield of his vehicle.

Tiger was in Southern California over the weekend for the PGA Tournament event he hosts at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, just outside Santa Monica. Tiger’s foundation runs the tournament.

Social media posts on Monday and Tuesday showed that Tiger had stayed in Southern California after the final round of his tourney Sunday and had played a round of golf with actor David Spade.

Fellow PGA stars, A-list athletes and celebrities, and even former President Donald Trump have all ben posting messages of support and well wishes.
