Subway likes gimmicks and taking big swings.  Some work (remember the free sandwiches if you tattoo a Subway logo on your body?), and some ultimately fail spectacularly (Jared).  They have a new idea where they plan on rewarding its biggest fan with free subs for life.  However, they require that the winner really prove their love and loyalty to the brand.

The winner will have to legally change their first name to Subway, and for that comes free Deli Hero sandwiches for life. Between August 1 and August 4, the superfans of Subway can visit SubwayNameChange.com to enter the contest, but to be eligible, they must change their name and assume that new identity.

“Subway will select one lucky winner to earn free sandwiches and assume an iconic new identity,” said the press release the company sent out. And the winner will ultimately get back the money they spent to change their name. “Subway will provide the winner with money to reimburse them for legal and processing costs for the name change, making it easy and effortless to become Subway and enjoy a lifetime of delicious subs.”

Subway seems to have the market cornered on free grub, and they have a fan base that responds. Last year a fan camped out for two days to get a footlong tattoo of the Subway Series logo in exchange for free sandwiches for life.

Subway executed a re-do on their entire menu back in 2021, and these decisions are not taken lightly. The restaurant chain announced that they invested over $80 million in deli meat slicers that can make freshly cut slices of meat for sandwiches.
