Time and again, “The Simpsons” appear to predict the future. The show established a pattern of coincidental forecasting of seemingly peculiar events, which have ironically come to fruition. A recent example is none other than Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential run.
This time around, the show predicted the unfortunate disappearance of OceanGate’s Titan as it descended the ocean’s depths to view the sunken Titanic.
Season 17 episode “Homer’s Paternity Coot,” originally aired in 2006, featured Homer Simpson’s long-lost father delivering an ominous speech prior to the father-son journey under the sea.
“Today I am filled with joy. Searching for treasure with my long-lost son. My dream for each of you is that you find the happiness I feel today” declared the character.
The duo explored the ocean in a recently familiar-looking vessel, eventually happening upon a treasure-ridden shipwreck.
Accidentally getting the submersible trapped within a section of the barrier reef, Homer starts to panic and struggles to pry himself free just as the sub’s “low oxygen” button begins to flash, ultimately leading him to drift off into a coma.
Surrounded by his family, the character eventually awakens three days later.
The resurfaced clip from almost 20 years ago has been creating shockwaves on Twitter.

One eerie Twitter reply read “two people who died in the titanic submarine were son and father … in this episode simpsons predicted it would be son and father.”
“Before I do anything dangerous ima make sure ‘The Simpsons’ haven’t made an episode of it yet cos how the f – – k did they predict the #Titanic Submarine incident,” said a second person.
“The Simpson writers should be investigated because this is insane” joked another.
In yet another twist of irony, it turns out that ‘The Simpsons’ writer and producer Mike Reiss viewed the Titanic wreckage this past summer…as an OceanGate passenger.
‘The Simpsons’ writer and producer Mike Reiss revealed he went on three trips with OceanGate, including one to see the Titanic wreckage last summer on the submersible.
He details that passengers were required to sign a waiver that mentioned death three times on the first page. pic.twitter.com/cEYppLzV7M
