The federal judge in the criminal contempt case against former Trump advisor Steve Bannon revoked his bail on Thursday and ordered him to report to begin his prison sentence on July 1.
In 2022, Bannon was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress for not complying with a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th riot at the US Capitol. Bannon argued that complying with the subpoena would have violated executive privilege with Trump, who was president at the time.
After the original trial, Bannon appealed the case to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. The three appellate judges upheld the original case, raising the likelihood that Bannon would have to serve the four-month prison sentence originally handed down.

In a post on X, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said: “Steve Bannon sought judicial review of the illegal demands of a runway congressional committee, unlike any ever comprised. It was literally a matter of first impression. And they’re sending him to prison – not just to torture him but to torture us.”
It is with great sadness and anger that we observe the death of the judicial system in America.

After receiving word of the new court order, Bannon told the press, “I’ve got great lawyers, and we’re going to go all the way to the Supreme Court if we have to.”
He also added that the Justice Department is “not going to shut up Trump, they’re not going to shut up Navarro, they’re not going to shut up Bannon, and they’re certainly not going to shut up MAGA.”

Former Trump ally Peter Navarro is also facing legal challenges, as is former President Trump himself. Like Bannon’s, Navarro’s case also revolves around not complying with a House Select Committee subpoena in connection with January 6th.
Weeks ago, the Department of Justice prosecutors in Bannon’s appellate case requested the judge to order him to begin his prison sentence.
The prosecution of Bannon, along with the various cases against President Trump, has been criticized as being political in nature. As previously reported by Valuetainment, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records and now awaits sentencing on July 11th.
Bannon has been noted as an influential strategic ally of Trump, especially in his 2016 campaign. As described by The Guardian: “at conservative conferences, Bannon was always by Trump’s side. The relationship was so deep, recalled Sam Nunberg, an ex-Trump aide, that at the Freedom Summit Trump went around and said: “Where’s my Steve? Where’s my Steve?”
If Bannon’s further legal efforts are unsuccessful, he will be incarcerated from July to November of this year.
