Whenever there is a change to any social media platform it’s safe to say money made by influencers, companies and the platform itself could increase or decrease. The proof is in the numbers. According to Zippia, combined social media companies made a combined $153 billion in 2021. According to Vox, a micro-influencer can make anywhere between $40,000 and $100,000 dollars per year. So, it’s the latest news the world of social media is concerning.

First, Elon Musk made headlines with tweets of a verification revamp. Reports show keeping a verified status on Twitter will now cost a monthly fee of $20. Users already verified will have 90 days to sign up for the upgraded Twitter Blue subscription or they will lose their blue badge. That 90-day countdown will start soon. Apparently, the new owner of Twitter wants the new subscription up and running by November 7th.

At the start of Monday, thousands of Instagram users woke up not able to access their accounts. Some users who could access their account received a notification that their account was suspended. Users headed to Twitter to complain about the inconvenience. Instagram has since confirmed users were experiencing trouble accessing their accounts and they are looking into what caused the problem.

Now to the metaverse. Whether you gave access to it or not, Facebook has your phone number. According to Insider, any of your friends who shared their address book with Facebook also shared your personal details. This includes if you somehow do not have Instagram, Facebook, or Messenger. Luckily, there is now a way to block and delete your number from the platform. Insider says the rollout for the tool was so quiet, they can’t find any reports of it. Apparently, it’s been around since May of this year.

If you don’t want your number shared with the world, you will have to find the page in the help section of a page for non-users. The link is buried about 780 words into the page, and it reads, “Click here if you have a question about the rights you may have.” After that the instructions are straight forward.
