Representative Little Bo Peep is facing reality.

Congressman George Santos surrendered himself to face federal charges on Wednesday. He is now in custody.

They include wire fraud and money laundering and is facing up to 20 years.

He’s charged with seven counts of wire fraud in total, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making false statements to Congress.

The indictment, a juicy one, gets into the details. Much of these charges stem from stories we already know. One comes from a $700,000 wire that Santos said would be used to get him elected this past election season. The indictment claims he pocketed the cash. He also lied, according to an indictment, to a donor, saying there was no campaign contribution limit, when in reality, there is.

Santos is also slammed for receiving unemployment benefits when he was still getting a salary as an investment firm employee.

Even though the salary was $120k a year, Santos felt the need to collect an additional $25,000 in unemployment.

US Attorney Breon Peace said that he “seeks to hold Santos accountable for various alleged fraudulent schemes and brazen misrepresentations. Taken together, the allegations in the indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself.”

The charges just broke on Wednesday, so Santos hasn’t responded and might not be able to for a while since he’s in custody. Expect him to make bail however, and for him to fire up his Twitter account immediately afterwards.
