So, how’s your Saturday going?

It’s likely going much better than Vladimir Putin’s.

There’s a full on military revolution taking place in Russia as we speak.

The Wagner Group is a Russian paramilitary organization that has been active in conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, and the Central African Republic. It is seen as a private military company (PMC), a network of mercenaries, or a de facto private army of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The group operates beyond the law in Russia, where private military companies are officially forbidden. Because it operates in support of Russian interests, it receives equipment from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Since the Ukraine war started, the Wagner Group leader has called out the Russian ministry of defense several times for insufficient supplies to the group. The Wagner group has an estimated 25,000 members, many of which are former Russian special forces, and have an active recruiting network.

Friday, the leader of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, alleged that his unit was bombed by the Russian government. Now, Prigozhin has completely turned against the Russian military and is taking control of Russian cities. In the last 24 hours the Wagner Group has:

  • Seized the southern Russian city of Rostov
  • Sent columns of troops northward toward Moscow

The Wagner group has the tanks, aircrafts, and public support. This is developing in a very similar way to the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution in Russia which lead to a new government.

Putin called for the arrest of Yevgeny Prigozhin and ordered the Russian military to wipe out the Wagner Group.

The Wagner group has been more effective than the Russian military during the Ukraine war. Not only can an argument be made that this group can out muscle the Russian military, but its possible the Russian soldiers begin siding with the Wagner Group.

If Prigozhin’s message becomes more popular than Putin’s, he will be the next ruler of Russia.
