Violent crime has become so commonplace and rampant in Washington, D.C., that the city’s police union is having to offer rewards to try to bring dangerous criminals to justice.
Saturday night around 9:30 there was a shooting outside National’s Park, where Washington was hosting the San Diego Padres in a Major League Baseball game.
Panicked fans were forced to take cover as bullets were sprayed outside the stadium. Three people were shot just outside the third base gate, as gunmen in two cars shot at each other.
Sunday police released photos of one of the cars involved in the shooting, and the police union offered a $10,000 fine for information that leads to arrests.
The union is fed up with the lack of support by local politicians, and sent out a tweet Sunday that said “Welcome to Washington, D.C. Where violent crime permeates everything. It is a tragedy that elected officials won’t let us do our jobs.”
It was a chaotic scene on Saturday night. The sound of gunshots was clearly audible and fans poured onto the playing field as well as camera wells to try to avoid being shot.
The game was postponed, and will continue Sunday. The Padres were leading the game 8-4 in the sixth inning.
