This was bound to happen, but it still seems a little weird now that it did.

Steve Jobs is synonymous with Apple — one of the most iconic and important CEO of all time. He founded the company, was forced to leave, helped invent and grow Pixar into a monster Hollywood studio, then returned to save the day at Apple when it was in serious trouble.

So, all in, he’s served 4,249 days as the head of Apple as CEO. Which puts him second on the list for most days served in a full-time capacity. Tim Cook now holds the record, serving longer than his old boss and mentor.

Technically, Jobs fans could say he still is in the lead because he did serve as Interim CEO until the Apple board officially gave him the gig.

Jobs passed away from cancer in 2011, and by that time, Cook had already been serving as CEO for a few months. Cook is the seventh CEO Apple has had, surprisingly more than you might think.  Remember the name Michael Scott? Mike Markkula? Michael Spindler? Gil Amelio? They proceeded Cook.

It was Jobs and now Cook who have taken Apple to its greatest heights. Jobs was in a league of his own and oversaw the launch of the iPhone, iPad, and iTunes. Cook has grown the company’s market cap to the $2 trillion mark.
