There were few people as synonymous with a media entity as James O’Keefe was with Veritas since he did start it and all, but he announced on Monday that he’s exiting, and it sounds like he will create a new venture.

O” Keefe launched the nonprofit company that became famous for sting operations a dozen years ago. But times change, and in the span of a dozen years, he somehow had lost all power, and the writing was on the wall that he was done.

Here’s part of his message in a video he posted Monday.

“I was stripped of all decision-making last week. Currently, I have no job at Project Veritas. I have no position here based upon what the board has done — so I’m announcing to you all that today, on President’s Day, I’m packing up my personal belongings here.”

A spokesman for Project Veritas named R.C. Maxwell said, yeah, that is the case. The Project Veritas board of directors removed him from his CEO position.

As for what’s next, O’Keefe hinted at what his future might look like.  “Our mission continues on. I’m not done. The mission will perhaps take on a new name,”

So what happened?  The website for New York Magazine’s Intelligencer reported earlier this month that O’Keefe took a paid leave while the board figured things out. There reportedly was a lot of internal strife at the company.

Also in February, a group of 16 employees signed a letter that accused O’Keefe of being “outright cruel” to members of that group.

Here’s more from that letter. “James has become a power drunk tyrant, and he is exactly who he pontificates on who we should be exposing,”

After that, it was just a matter of time before he was sent packing from the company he started.
