OJ Simpson, once a star NFL player who became mired in infamy over the trial of the murder of his wife Nicole Simpson (nee Brown), died on Wednesday at the age of 76. His family made the announcement via his X account on the morning of April 11th.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” the family wrote. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

Simpson had been dealing with prostate cancer over the last few years, which worsened in recent months. He was taken into hospice care in recent months.
