New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday that Rikers Island, a major prison under the city’s Department of Correction, would be “ready” for Donald Trump should he be sentenced to prison for violating his gag order in the Stormy Daniels hush money trial.

“Our amazing commissioner, she is prepared for whatever comes on Rikers Island,” said Adams at a news conference. “I’m pretty sure she would be prepared to manage and deal with the situation,” he continued in reference to Lynelle Maginley-Liddie.

“In this business, particularly around law enforcement, we have to adjust to whatever comes our way, but we don’t want to deal with a hypothetical. But they’re professionals, they’ll be ready,” he added.

This follows from acting Justice of the New York Supreme Court in New York County Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing Trump’s criminal trial, threatening the former president with jail time should he violate his gag order one too many times (he has not given a threshold to the number of gag order violations that would warrant this). “Going forward, this court will have to consider jail,” explained the judge, as fines “are not serving as a deterrent.”

As Valuetainment previously reportedTrump has been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in attempt to cover up his hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. It is the first criminal trial a US president has ever had to face. He has so far been fined a total of $10,000, or one $1,000 fine for each of the ten times the judge has ruled Trump liable for a gag order violation.

Many of the violations stem from Trump simply sharing articles on his Truth Social account. He was told to delete the posts, which they described as posts “about known witnesses pertaining to their participation in this criminal proceeding and by making public statements about jurors in this criminal proceeding.”

Trump told attendees at a private dinner at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend that he does not get stressed over his legal battles: “If you care too much, you tend to choke. And in a way, I don’t care. It’s just, you know, life is life.” This comes alongside Trump’s statement to the press after his day in court Monday in which he said he would willingly go to jail for the cause of defending “the Constitution.”
