CBS News had a new poll that continued to spell great news for Trump, and mixed-negative news for Ron DeSantis.

Trump leads the field with 58% of the vote and DeSantis at 22%.

Nothing new in terms of numbers here, but it shows a consistent pattern. In the last five polls, Trump has been a minimum of 30 points ahead of the DeSantis.

The bit of solace DeSantis can find is that he’s no longer sweating his second place position. Before, he was only about 7 points ahead of Mike Pence, and DeSantis has already gone on the attack against Nikki Haley. His political action committee even shopped around some mean nicknames for her.

But Pence and Vivek Ramaswamy are tied for third place at just 5%. That’s a much more comfortable gap for DeSantis then before.

However, watch the creeping numbers of Ramaswamy, the anti woke crusader and businessman. A month ago he was polling at 1%. The previous batch of polls had him at 3%. He is riding this upward trajectory that concludes a realistic possibility that he could end up comfortably in third place, at the very least. Haley is below Ramaswamy at 4%.

And, some other fun numbers if you’re curious about the long, longshots. Conservative talk figure Larry Elder is at 2%. Not God awful considering he’s the least visible candidate out there, and Chris Christie gets 2%. Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson nabs just 1%.

And, this poll probably hurts Tim Scott the most. He’s tied for last at 1%. Terrible numbers considering the guy is a US senator, raising millions of dollars, and has an exploratory committee, signaling he’s close to announcing.

Scott might just wanna reverse course on that whole decision. DeSantis too.
