Morning Consult just a released a poll that shows DeSantis dead in the water. With this kind of gap, it may be wise for the Florida Governor not to run.

Trump leads the field in a national poll with a whopping 58% of the vote, his best showing to date. Ron DeSantis nabs second place with a paltry 21%.

And some lukewarm news for Mike Pence, who hasn’t announced yet and may not even end up pulling the trigger. He still nabs 7% of the vote. Not a terrible number considering you’re not an announced candidate, but you’re also not the media-anointed not-Trump figure (that would be DeSantis).

Nikki Haley must be sweating bullets as she only pulls in 3% even post announcement. Her campaign might have ended before it even began, as she was caught inflating her fundraising numbers by 2 million. She double counted a chunk of change. With her message of level-headedness and competence, this is not a good look.

But businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is looking better than ever, polling at 3%. Not terribly impressive, but he’s only drawn 0-1% of support in previous polls, and he’s climbed up a bit, despite a media blackout. Considering he doesn’t have any elected official credentials, he seems to actually be breaking through. And hey, he’s two points ahead of Senator Tim Scott, who is close to announcing his run for president. Don’t be surprised if Ramaswamy catches at least a bit of fire and ends up like an Andrew Yang figure but for the right. You can actually check out a substantive interview he did with Patrick Bet-David here:

At this point, it’s probably most wise for DeSantis to drop out. You can make up a 20 gap, sure. But a 37 point one? Extremely doubtful. If DeSantis’s numbers were ticking up he’d have a fighting chance, but they’re doing just the opposite. Previous polls had DeSantis in a closer race with Trump, with usually DeSantis about 15 to 20 points down from him. We’ll watch some other polls to see if this trend and massive discrepancy between the two continues.
