There was a time (just a few years ago) when Hollywood award season was kind of fun.

The highly-produced shows would gather well-dressed A-listers to celebrate the accomplishments from the past year.

It was glamorous and exciting, and now it appears that the odds of shows like that happening again are right up there with Joy Behar putting a Republican candidate’s campaign sign in her front yard.

Tinseltown is just too woke, too self-absorbed, and too detached from the rest of the world to ever consider going back to how it used to be.

Why celebrate when you can wallow in misery, outrage and blame.

Monday the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Golden Globe Awards that they oversee were put on blast, NBC cancelling next year’s show altogether, and Tom Cruise sending back the three statues he’s won over the year on the show.

Cruise won Golden Globes for Best Actor in Jerry Maguire and Born on the Fourth of July, and best Supporting Actor in Magnolia.

All three trophies were taken off mantles, dusted off and sent back to HFPA headquarters.

It could be just the start. Make you you monitor Ebay this week, and see if there’s a big sale of the golden trophy that television and film actors used to want to win.

It’s been a barrage of bad news for the HFPA, as numerous companies, groups and individuals have been speaking out for the past few weeks about the group’s lack of diversity in its ranks.

Monday, the board issued a statement, trying to slow the tsunami of worst case scenarios they were dealing with.

Here’s part of the statement:  “Regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, implementing transformational changes as quickly – and as thoughtfully – as possible remains the top priority for our organization.

We invite our partners in the industry to the table to work with us on the systemic reform that is long overdue, both in our organization as well as within the industry at large.

Our below timeline demonstrates our commitment to achieving these goals with extreme urgency.”

There is a plan to eventually put in place a new board and executive committee, with the current board members all handed their walking papers when that happens.
