Tucker Carlson’s departure from Fox News did something that seemed impossible — it made MSNBC kind of relevant.

The progressive cheer squad scored a prime time win over Fox News in total viewers and key demos in the week after Rupert Murdoch fired the highest-rated cable news start.  M

MSNBC had 1.693 million total views and racked up 176,000 in the 25-54 demo.  Fox News on the other hand, fell to 1.598 million total viewers between 8-11 pm, and they had 164,00 viewers in the key demos.

CNN barely registered, with 481,000 total viewers.

The person who benefited the most is Rachel Maddow, who was the leader in prime time with 2.2 million views.

So, Fox News is going to have to figure things out quickly. They have been pretty quiet about what they will do permanently to replace Carlson, and they haven’t spoken in detail about why he was fired in the first place.

There have been rumblings that Fox was worried about messages that could have been revealed during the trial with Dominion Voting Systems, which led to the cable giant agreeing to pay 787.5 million in a settlement.

Fox News Channel was by far the ratings leader for all cable channels in the first quarter of 2023. It averaged 1.364 million viewers, with ESPN second at 812,000 and MSNBC lagging far behind at 703,000.
