Even though Mark Zuckerberg is worth over $60 billion, he’s just like you and me when it comes to dopey-looking memes. He’s sensitive to the ones that make him look silly, as he demonstrated this past week after he posted a shot of his digital avatar standing in front of the Eiffel Tower commemorating the launch of Horizon Worlds in France and Spain.

Boy, did Zuck get mercilessly blasted on Twitter.  One tweet compared the Meta CEO’s look to be similar to the Teletubbies PlayStation One game.  Ouch.

Zuckerberg quickly put his crack staff of emergence engineers and designers to work and was able to release new screenshots later in the week that made him look a little more life-like and a little less creepy.

Here’s the caption he included with it

“Major updates to Horizon and avatar graphics coming soon.”

You have to give credit to Zuckerberg for at least being self-aware enough that his first avatar was a big miss and having a bit of a chuckle over it.

“I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic — it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch. The graphics in Horizon are capable of much more — even on headsets.”

The bottom line is that all eyes are on Zuckerberg and his attempt to take his company into the metaverse exclusively, and poor graphics for what he hopes will be a potentially game-changing game is not a great way to launch it.
