The last time Ben Affleck and Matt Damon collaborated on something, they won hardware and became global superstars. That was a quarter century ago with Good Will Hunting, the Oscar-winning film they wrote and starred in. The dynamic duo is collaborating again on a movie that Amazon is putting a lot of muscle behind.

The movie is called “Air.” It’s about the iconic shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro and his quest to sign Michael Jordan for Nike.

To say Amazon has high hopes for “Air” would be a bit of an understatement. They are all in, and they even purchased a $7 million Super Bowl ad that will promote the movie that stars Affleck as Nike founder Phil Knight and Villa Davis as Michael Jordan’s mother, Deloris.  It’s a strong cast; Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker, and Marlon Wayans are also in it.

In a rare move for a streamer, the movie still gets a substantial theatrical release on over 3,000 screens around the country. It hits theaters on April 5, and then it will be available to stream on Amazon.

While the story centers around the pursuit of Jordan for Nike, MJ’s character is not in the film. He only shows up in old highlights from his college days at the University of North Carolina.

Good Will Hunting was made for $10 million and brought in a staggering $226 million at the box office. It received nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. It took home two Oscars; Robin Willians got one, and Ben and Matt won for Best Original Screenplay.
