Stop me if you’ve heard this story before; After only having experience drinking tequila for their entire adult life, a major celebrity with a big following discovers they now have the “secret sauce” for the liquor and decide to market their very own brand.

Yeah, it worked for Clooney, The Rock, Kendall Jenner, and half of Hollywood it seems, and now Mark Wahlberg wants in on the action.

He’s invested in a tequila brand called Flecha Azul.  It’s an existing line co-founded by a Mexican PGA golfer named Abraham Ancer and Aron Marquez.

As unoriginal and tired as the “celebrity launches a tequila brand” headline is, give Marky Mark credit for having the self-awareness to realize it’s been done over and over and over again.

Here’s what he told CNN.

“It’s funny because when it was first mentioned to me, I said ‘absolutely not,’ You have all these other people out there claiming to have gone to Mexico and created tequila and cultivated agave and all this stuff. They were like, ‘This is not what that is, we have two amazing guys who are really young and like minded.’ ... I just said I would love to invest in them.”

Wahlberg made his partnership and participation official during the pandemic, and he became the principal investor after visiting the distillery in Jalisco, Mexico.

If you want to be on the lookout for the tequila, to see if it’s as good as Wahlberg says it is, they have five different types: Blanco and Resporado, Anejo, Cristalino, and Extra Anejo.

It is being sold in Texas, Nevada, California, and Georgia and should be available nationwide later in 2022.

There’s money to be made in this business. Clooney and Randy Gerber sold Casamigos to Diageo for close to $1 billion. The Rock’s tequila called Teremana sold over 600,000 nine-liter cases, and Kendall Jenner has tens of millions of potential customers to promote her 818 brand to.

Now it’s Wahlberg’s turn, who’s ditching his passion for red wine and moving to Tequila.
