When you think of everything LeBron James is involved in with his investment portfolio, social activism, family life, helping to craft the Lakers roster as their pseudo GM, and everything else, it’s really quite amazing he has time to play basketball.

His media company called The SpringHill Company just closed a minority stake sale to a group of investors, which includes RedBird Capital Partners, Nike, Epic Games and Fenway Sports Group.  The reason this is interesting is because now his investment team involves Epic Games, and this new round brings the valuation of SpringHill Company to an incredibly $725 million.

Word is despite these heavy hitters on board as new investors, LeBron and his longtime friend and the company’s CEO Maverick Carter still maintain controlling interest in the group.

Here’s part of the announcement from the company after the financing round was official.

“This will enable SpringHill to significantly expand its current businesses of IP development, commerce, content, brand consulting and live events.”

The company has only been around since 2020, and for the most part SpringHill has operated as a content creator in the IP space.

That’s about to change. They have their sights on new frontiers, and clearly Epic Games’ involvement will assist their footprint in gaming. They also plan on breaking into the apparel and event sector.

Here’s what Carter said in the release.

“SpringHill’s mission is empowering greatness in every individual. We started this company with the tagline ‘More Than an Athlete’ which still defines everything we do to this very day. We are an incredible team of athletes, artists, writers, designers, musicians and countless other creators. With this new group of investors who are the very best in their respective industries we are going to be able to empower our community and every creator to do their most inspiring work and achieve their most ambitious dreams.”

So, yes, it appears LeBron James is as aggressive, successful and dynamic in the boardroom as he is on the hardwood.
