There are two things Jeff Bezos has a lot of but he might be in the market for even more.

  1. Publicity
  2. Ownership of something that costs a lot of money.

A story by A.J. Perez of FrontOfficeSports.com reports that there’s a very familiar name that keeps popping up in regards to the purchase of the NFL’s Denver Broncos.

Jeff Bezos. The purchase price for the team is expected to be roughly $4 billion, so that means Bezos will have to spend some time rummaging through the cushions of his couch for that. Or maybe he carries that much cash with him at all times, you never know.

If $4 billion seems like a lot for the Denver Broncos, get used to it. Franchise values for NFL teams are expected to continue to skyrocket, in part because of legalized gambling.

Another name that is out in the ether regarding being a potential owner is Jay-Z.  For him, the transaction would be a little more complex that it would be for Bezos. An NFL rule states that an owner would need to purchase by himself at least 30% of the cost of the franchise.

With a net worth of $1.3 billion, it’s doubtful Jay-Z has the liquid to meet the 30% threshold.

With a net worth of over $200 billion, Bezos would have the ability to purchase all 32 NFL teams if he wanted, and have enough left over to purchase a dozen NHL teams.
