Have you ever dropped a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs on your kitchen floor? It makes a bit of a mess.  Multiply that by a million, and you’ll see what a cleanup crew was dealing with on a Virginia highway recently.

A tractor-trailer was transporting a shipment of meatballs on I-95 when the truck jackknifed, and 20 tons of those frozen meatballs were dumped on the road.

That is 40,000 pounds.  Traffic was shut down for four hours as officials worked on picking up the pieces of this mess.

Here’s how it all happened. The trucker lost control of his rig and hit a guardrail when he overcorrected.  That caused his vehicle to jackknife, and the trailer reached and rolled away.  Another semi barreling down the road could not avoid it and collided with the trailer, spilling the meatballs all over.

Thankfully nobody was hurt seriously. However, some dinner plans are going to be disrupted.

This wasn’t the only crazy accident involving the ingredients of an excellent Italian pasta dish. Back in August, a truck carrying 300,000 tomatoes in Northern California collided with two vehicles, sending those tasty red fruits flying and creating a river of tomato soup on the highway.

The road was too slick for other cars to navigate, and the tomato sauce caused a chain reaction of crashes.

Wait, there’s more. The next day in Tennessee, a big rig crashed into a wall, which again caused another major road closure. That truck was carrying thousands of pounds of Alfredo sauce, which was spilled all over the highway.

There are just under two weeks left in 2022.  Be extra cautious if you’re driving and encounter a big rig transporting packages of pasta.
