Joe Biden has a nickname. The 80-year-old is known up and down Capital Hill as “The Big Guy,” and he may or may not believe there isn’t any mess he can’t wiggle his way out of. But this classified docs situation he has gotten himself into is going to be challenging to get out of if David Gergen is correct.
Do you remember Gergen? He is a former member of the Clinton administration and now works as an analyst for CNN. And he flat-out told Anderson Cooper what he thought about it.
Cooper asked him how much political trouble Biden was in, and Gergen responded by saying, “It’s very, very big. Not legally, but politically. It’s a very, very big deal.”
Not so fast, Gergen — The Big Guy could be in big legal trouble too, now that a special counsel has been appointed to look into the scandal.
Here’s more of the warning from Gergen.
“I do think that they, that the Biden people, they may be making a big mistake. I don’t think sitting there, hunkering down now, you’re just acting like it’s not out there … they’re going to get creamed doing that.”
The more details that come out, the more people will wonder what Biden’s team is hiding. They had a chance to come clean when the first batch of docs was discovered and they didn’t.
Gergen put it into perspective having worked with Clinton.
“There’s a temptation in every one of these kinds of crises to hunker down. And it’s the wrong temptation. It’s the wrong temptation to listen to — look to — you going all the way back to Iran/Contra, and other kind of crises, like that. You’ve just got to get the facts out.”
