Harrison Ford’s shoulder injury, suffered on the set of “Indiana Jones 5,” has caused the 78-year-old screen icon to take time off while the shoulder is evaluated.
The injury, which occurred during a fight scene, could be more serious than initially believed.
“It is Harrison’s last outing as Indiana and everyone thought it would be plain sailing,” an industry insider told the Sun. “But now Harrison is injured and it is worse than first thought.”
Ford, according to various reports, could miss three months for shoulder surgery.
“The film’s bosses have come together to work out the scheduling and it’s chaos,” the Sun source reported. “The earliest they think they can restart the production is September.”
It wasn’t clear whether the planned release, July 29, 2022, will be affected.
“In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. “Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”
“Indiana Jones 5,” starring Ford as the extremely active archaeologist Indiana Jones, started filming the past couple of weeks in Great Britain.
James Mangold, who recently directed “Ford vs. Ferrari,” is directing this installment, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen will co-star.
Steven Spielberg directed the first four Indiana Jones films and is reportedly staying on as a producer.
The fourth chapter was released in 2008; the original, “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” premiered in 1981.
Ford is famous – or notorious – for insisting on doing as many of his own stunts as he is allowed. He hurt his back on the set of “Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom” and his leg during the making of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
