It took a whole month for the trial but less than three hours for a jury in South Carolina to reach a verdict that Alex Murdaugh murdered his wife and son.  Twelve jurors convicted him, and his sentencing is set for Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Murdaugh looked defeated as the clerk methodically read the verdict to each charge.  Murdaugh’s only living son was in the gallery when the verdict was read and seemed to wipe his face, but tears weren’t evident.

Murdaugh is guilty of all charges— two counts of murder and possession of a weapon while committing a violent crime.

What a fall for the wealthy member of a three-generation legal dynasty in South Carolina. Testimony throughout the trial revealed some incredible details of how he swindled his law firm and clients out of $9 million.  The admitted drug addict denied killing his wife with a rifle and son with a shotgun, but the overwhelming evidence made the decision easy for the jury.

The victims were found in dog kennels on the property they were murdered, and Murdaugh claimed to be taking a nap in the main house at the time of the murder.

Assistant Attorney General Creighton Waters told jurors during the trial that Murdaugh was a low-life conman who tried to con the jury when he took the stand in his own defense last week.

”This is a man who made his trade on lying. He lied about the most important facts in the case and effortlessly and easily pivoted to a new lie when confronted by something he wasn’t prepared for.  He fooled Maggie and Paul, too, and they paid for it with their lives. Don’t let him fool you, too.”

Murdaugh could not con the most important audience of his life, and he’ll likely spend the rest of it in prison.
