Ukrainian refugees can use any help that can be provided after Russian military forces have invaded their country, and the award for the most creative way to raise money for them goes to former Olympic gold medal figure skater Brian Boitano and his partner, singer Franc D’Ambrosio.
The couple hosted an auction at their San Francisco home Friday night, and the star piece was a painting called “Sunrise March,” a work created by a robotic dog named “Spot.”
Yes, Spot cranked out an awesome-looking piece of art that sold for $40,000, with all the proceeds going to the Polish Dominican Friars, a group that provides aid that goes directly to victims of the war, according to the New York Post.
So how about some more info on Spot; he was created by Boston Dynamics and is actually for sale himself – for $75,000. The piece was created in the studio owned by Polish-American artist Agnieszka Pilat, who explained to the Post how she made this epic piece.
“This painting is executed by the robot’s marching feet, as a lyrical metaphor for the feet of millions of refugees marching towards Poland in hope of escaping the war. As a Polish artist, I feel great solidarity with the Ukrainian people, with whom Poland has a shared history of fighting totalitarian Russia.”
“It is especially painful to see pictures of old people marching. They have seen it before. I don’t see how they are going to give up. f I were living in Poland, and the Russians came, I would rather die than let the Russian regime harass us and enslave us.”
